Residence Permit
Non-EU students in Germany need a residence permit if they are not here as a tourist.
After registering with the city administration, non-EU students will also have to go to the foreigners' office of the city in which they study in order to apply for a residence permit ("Antrag zur Erteilung einer Aufenthaltsgenehmigung").
For the form, you must bring with you:
- your valid passport (with entry visa if necessary) or your identity card, which must be valid for the entire period to be spent in Germany
- a passport-size photo
- proof of valid health insurance
- a proof-of-income document, confirming that you are able to finance the whole of your study period (Finanzierungsnachweis)
- a certificate of registration at your university
- If you are a scholarship holder, you should bring the original certificates with you.
