Studying abroad is an advatange for all students to have valuable experiences and is important to employers in this global age. It gives a better understanding for other cultures and builds skills in communication and cooperation.
Every semester our universities welcome many international students who want to study here only a semester or two. If there is no formal agreement on student exchanges between your home university and the university at which you intend to study, you may apply at the guest university as a "Free Mover".
Free Mover means that you do not take part in any exchange programme, but arrange your stay on an individual basis. When you are interested in studying as a Free Mover, contact your home university and the university of your choice.
As a Free Mover you can receive ECTS credits as well as a transcript of records from the German university, which may or may not be recognised by your home institution. You must also check that you have all other formalities arranged (Application for Study Abroad Semester, etc.).
Important information for Free Movers is provided in the A – Z list in the Incoming Student Guide, and on the websites of our websites.
