Semestertickets for students, after registration at the university, students can buy a semesterticket, which will allow them to travel freely or at reduced rates within the regional travel network.

Deutsche Bundesbahn

The DB (Deutsche Bundesbahn) offers an extensive and modern railway system. If you are planning to travel a lot by train during your stay in Germany, it might be worth buying a Bahncard (Railway card). With a Bahncard you can save a percentage of the travel costs. Furthermore the Deutsche Bundesbahn offers special train tickets such as:

Schönes-Wochenend-Ticket:  Valid for up to 5 persons travelling together on Saturdays or Sundays between 12:00 a.m. (midnight) until 3 a.m. of the following day for only 37 EUR if you buy your ticket online.

Baden-Württemberg-Ticket: It is valid for one day (Monday to Friday from 9.00 a.m. to 3.00 a.m. of the next day, Saturday and Sunday from 12.00 a.m. to 3.00 a.m. of the next day). Up to 5 persons can travel together It can be used on all local trains and the entire public transport system in Baden-Württemberg, with some exceptions. The ticket costs 28 Euros.  A Single ticket is also available for 19 Euros, as well as a Night Ticket for 5 people costs 20 Euros, which is valid from 6.00 pm.

All tickets can be obtained from automatic ticket machines or from a "Reisezentrum" in railway stations.

Airports and Airlines

The closest international airports are in Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Munich, and Zurich.  Berlin, Budapest, Paris, Prague, and Rome are not very far and are very attractive cities where you can enjoy a long weekend.

Car Rentals

During your stay in Germany, if you would like to rent a car you must have all of the required documentation, such as an international drivers license.  Americans must plan ahead because their drivers licenses are only valid for 6 months in Germany.
